Winter '27 Salesforce Flow Enhancements for Developers

Vinay Vernekar · · 5 min read

The Winter '27 release brings a substantial number of enhancements to Salesforce Flow, focusing on developer productivity, enhanced testing, and improved usability. These updates are designed to simplify the creation, management, and execution of declarative automation.

Key Flow Enhancements in Winter '27

1. Flow Tagging for Organization and Discovery

Flows can now be tagged with keywords, and these tags can be categorized. This feature aids in organizing and quickly locating specific flows within an organization, especially beneficial for complex automation landscapes.

2. Dedicated Flow Test Mode (Beta)

This is a significant advancement for flow testing. Test Mode replaces previous debug and testing functionalities, offering a unified interface for both debugging and creating repeatable tests. It allows saving test configurations for future execution, providing more robust and efficient flow validation.

3. Faster Order Event Triggers (Marketing Cloud)

For Marketing Cloud Flow Builder users, flows can now be triggered by Order Return, Order Shipment, and Order Status Change events with near real-time processing (approximately 3 seconds), a substantial improvement over previous multi-minute delays. This is available in Marketing Cloud Growth and Advanced editions.

4. Copying Marketing Cloud Audience Flows

Marketing Cloud users can now copy audience flows with granular control. Options include copying associated emails, SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS messages, or simply linking to original assets. Segment and list trigger definitions can also be copied independently, ensuring that cloned flows have their own distinct starting points and do not impact live campaigns.

5. Bulk Record Processing with Screen Flows

Screen Flows can now process multiple records from list views and related lists. By passing a text collection of record IDs (named "ids"), developers can implement bulk operations without individual record processing or complex workarounds. This is typically implemented via Flow Quick Actions added to list views or related lists.

6. Configurable Screen Flow Quick Action Window Size

When invoking Screen Flows via Quick Actions, developers can now define the modal window size. This addresses a long-standing usability issue, offering better control over the visual presentation of screen flow modals.

7. Reactive Formulas for Conditional Visibility

Conditional visibility rules in Screen Flows now correctly evaluate reactive formulas that reference components present on the current screen. This enhancement improves the dynamic behavior of screen components based on user interactions and data changes within the same screen.

8. Catching Missing Required Fields on Save

Flow Builder now warns users when a 'Create Records' element using a record variable is missing an assignment for a required field. This prevents runtime failures due to incomplete data, improving flow reliability.

9. Catching Field Length Violations on Save

Similar to missing required fields, Flow Builder will now flag potential field length violations when saving a flow. This proactively identifies scenarios where field data might exceed its defined length, preventing intermittent runtime errors.

10. Enforcing User Permissions Regardless of Flow Execution Context

A new 'Run As' option, "User Context - Enforces User Permissions," ensures that flows execute with the permissions of the running user. This means a flow can only access and manipulate data that the user themselves has permissions for, enhancing security and data integrity.

11. Persistent End Element Placement

End elements are now saved within the flow's XML metadata. This ensures that the visual placement of end elements is preserved when flows are edited outside of Flow Builder, improving consistency and compatibility with external tooling.

12. Flow Builder Keyboard Shortcuts

Flow Builder introduces new keyboard shortcuts for navigating the canvas, moving between elements across branches, and performing standard copy/paste operations. This improves efficiency for users who prefer keyboard-driven workflows.

13. Improved Flow Comparison Navigation

Flow version comparison results are now more navigable. Users can click on changes to view detailed information, and the 'Change Details' column has been removed to declutter the view, making it easier to understand differences between versions.

14. Unused Resources Filter

A new filter allows users to identify and clean up unused or undescribed resources within a flow. This helps maintain cleaner, more understandable flows and reduces technical debt.

15. Grouping Elements for Organization

Flows can now be organized by grouping elements with labels and descriptions. These groups can be collapsed and expanded, allowing developers to focus on specific sections of complex flows, enhancing readability and manageability.

16. Flow Edit History Tracking

A new 'Edit History' panel provides a timeline of flow saves and allows users to restore previous versions. It offers drill-down capabilities into individual element changes, providing a clear audit trail of modifications.

17. Salesforce Cosmos Theme for Flow Builder

Flow Builder now supports the Salesforce Cosmos Theme, aligning its user interface with the modern Salesforce look and feel (SLDS 2). This provides a more contemporary and consistent user experience.
